Research and Planning: Evaluation Question 4

How did you use technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stage?

This is my iShowU for question 4. On this iShowU video I have used the different technologies and talked about them and explained what I used them for.

I used Exexcel at the beginning of the year to create my production schedule which guided me in what to next after each task completed.

The camcorder was used for filming.
iMovie - This has been used for editing the raw footage to make it into a teaser trailer.
iPhoto - I have used this to upload my photos from the SLR's to put on my magazine and poster.
I have used my BlackBerry to record some scenes and have also used to upload images of my work onto Twitter.
I have used Photoshop to create my film magazine and poster.
I used Microsoft Powerpoint to create the studio logos for my teaser trailer.
My Blogger has been used for my research and planning, which has been my guideline throughout the year and has helped within the role of making my teaser trailer.
I have used Garageband to make sound for the teaser trailer as this is an element that is needed.

I have used the internet to research genres of films horror in particular and also to research specific details within court cases.
I have used prezi to make my different publications that have been used to find out the target audience of my teaser trailer and everything about them, through questionnaire's I have produced.
I have used twitter to upload images of my photos to gain feedback from my target audience to let me know if I'm on the right track to achieving my goal.
I have used the SLR and tripod to film different scenes for my teaser trailer.

I have used Youtube to research codes and conventions of horror genre trailers.

Research and Planning: Evaluation Question 3

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

This is my first video made for the feedback based on my teaser trailer "Verdict" about the strengths and weaknesses the target audience have written down about their watching of the teaser trailer, then what me and Louise have done to change this in order for our target audience to want to go and watch it.

Research and Planning: Evaluation Question 2

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?

Is this podcast/videoclips me and Louise discuss the effectiveness and not so effectiveness of our film magazine and poster. We made this by making the sound clip on garageband - podcast, and then uploading in this into iTunes and then putting it in iMovie along with screen-grabs of the work we are talking about and other things.

Research and Planning: Evaluation Question 1

In what ways does your media products, use develop and challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Teaser Trailer

Use: For our teaser trailer 'Verdict' me and Louise used some conventions of filming from other similar possession films such as "The Exorcism Of Emily Rose" The storyline is very similar as their is a court case and a possession of a character.
The scene in our trailer where there is a blood spatter on the wall was taken from "The Strangers" as we thought it would be a good effect and a decent peak in our own trailer to create tension. Other scenes we have used from The Strangers are a scene where the swings are moving with no one sat on them and the scene where 'hello' is written all over the window.
We have also used a scene from "Psycho" the part where this is an image of the knife with blood on it.
Other possession films including "The Exorcist" and "An American Haunting" have the storyline where a woman becomes possessed and we also decided to keep that theme running.
Me and Louise have also used scenes in our trailer where the main character in the jury - Amy becomes possessed, just like in other movies we have looked at. Just like The Exorcism Of Emily Rose me and Louise have also put text on our teaser trailer to provide more information.

Develop: The scene with the blood spatter on the wall we copied from The Strangers, however the other two we used we developed them further. The scene with the swings moving me and Louise added a darker effect on iMovie to make it seem more darker and mysterious to create tension. The scene where there is 'hello' written on the window, we made this our own by writing 'HELP ME!' in fake blood on a mirror. We also changed the storyline from other possession films where a demon or monster possess the woman, however in our case it is the spirit of a murdered young girl.

Challenge: We challenged the themes in our teaser trailer as well as even though their is a court case in The Exorcism Of Emily Rose we only showed members of the jury and not the actual court case, and we also used a news reporter scene to give more information. We also challenged the other possession story-lines we looked at as ours is completely original and hasn't been done before.

Film Magazine

Use: For my Film magazine I did not use too many conventions of others as mine is a horror special. However, there are some things I used from other magazines such as the typical colour scheme of 'Empire" and 'Total Film" - red, white and black. On my magazine I only used one main image just like in some issues of Total Film.

Develop: I have used other features of of different things on Empire magazine's like the added information they always use at the top. for mine I wrote "Review Of Summer BlockBusters 2012" they always have one piece of information at the top, but I changed this abit as I added a box for background.

Challenge: I have also challenged other types of magazines as my film magazine has a gradient effect and a negative effect with an inverted effect as well. Which has changed the background and the image completely and has made it look a lot more scarier. This gives my magazine a great horror effect.

Film Poster

Use: On my film poster I have used the typical conventions of the review of other papers to give it an added something so that my target audience will go and see it. I have also used the typical steeltongs and have added my logos and a website that the audience could go and visit if they wanted to, to find out more information.

Develop: Things I added on that aren't usually found on a lot of Horrors was the "Based On A True Story" and the tag line "Nothing Stays Dead & Buried". I didn't include actors names on mine as I wanted to make it mysterious as possible. I also changed the 'Yes' and 'No' that is found on an ouija board to 'Guilty' and 'Not Guilty' so that it fits in with the storyline.

Challenge:For my film poster I have not added an image, but have purely created an ouija board effect with a gradient that shows light and dark so that the audience doesn't quite know who the villain is and who the hero is. It is also quite original as the only other current film poster I could find without an image now is 'The Human Centipede 2' and that had been banned in the UK so that would be why.
